Playwright
Robert Lyons is a NYC playwright who writes dark, satirical comedies, literary adaptations, and experimental performance texts. He has more than twenty-five New York City premieres to his credit, most recently Class Dismissed at La Mama ("exuberantly unhinged" - New York Times) , developed at the Mercury Store in Brooklyn, NACL in the Catskills, and Ice Factory 2023 at New Ohio NYC.

His play My Onliness (“a welcome gust of weird” - New York Times) will be performed at Sibiu International Theatre Festival (Romania) in June 2025.
​
His performance text, YOVO, has been translated into Spanish and American Sign Language and has been performed in NYC, Poland, Cuba, and South Korea.
​
Both My Onliness and Yovo are included in "My Onliness and Others", a collection of six of his plays recently published by Mercer Street Books.
​
Other work includes: Puzzling Evidence (Downtown Upstate Festival), Last Gasp of the Liberal Class (“Essential theatre for the next generation”–Huffington Post), and Doorman's Double Duty (A gem! - New York Times).
​​Robert’s work has been developed in residencies at Space at Ryder Farm, NACL, HERE Artist Residency Program, The Orchard Project, The Playwright’s Center of Minneapolis, MASS MoCA, the Bogliasco Foundation, and MacDowell Colony.
He was also the Artistic Director of the legendary two-time Obie Award-winning New Ohio Theatre in Manhattan's West Village. He continues as Artistic Director of Soho Think Tank.
